I have insomnia and need help?
Posted by admin in reasons for insomnia on September 4th, 2010
For the past couple of days I have been struggling with insomnia. I have been unable to fall asleep and if I do, I jolt awake within 20 minutes. I think I have been averaging maybe 2 hours (tops) of sleep like that a night. I did pop a benedryl the other night and slept great, but I want to cure this naturally. I want my life back – I want to be awake a work and able to go out a bit in the evening. How can I get back to my normal sleeping habit.
Possible reasons I have insomnia – I quit smoking under a week ago. I moved back in with my folks after being on my own for 3 years. I am starting to get into a new relationship with a nice boy but am not sure I am ready to date.
Please help me!!!

Insomnia Natural Cures and Home Remedies – Why I Can Not Fall Asleep?
Posted by admin in natural cures for insomnia on September 1st, 2010
HealAll.info – Help you Sleep Deep Causes in insomnia Insomnia can be caused by: * Psychoactive drugs or stimulants, including certain medications, herbs, caffeine, cocaine, ephedrine, amphetamines, methylphenidate, MDMA, methamphetamine and modafinil * Hormone shifts such as those that precede menstruation and those during menopause * Life problems like fear, stress, anxiety, emotional or mental tension, work problems, financial stress, unsatisfactory sex life * Mental disorders such as clinical depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, general anxiety disorder * Disturbances of the circadian rhythm, such as shift work and jet lag, can cause an inability to sleep at some times of the day and excessive sleepiness at other times of the day. Jet lag is seen in people who travel through multiple time zones, as the time relative to the rising and setting of the sun no longer coincides with the body’s internal concept of it. The insomnia experienced by shift workers is also a circadian rhythm sleep disorder. * Insomnia-Estrogen Estrogen is considered to play a significant role in women’s mental health (including insomnia). A conceptual model of how estrogen affects mood was suggested by Douma et al 2005 based on their extensive literature review relating activity of endogenous, bio-identical and synthetic estrogen with mood and well-being. They concluded the sudden estrogen withdrawal, fluctuating estrogen, and periods of sustained estrogen low levels correlated with …

What kind of tests would be done to someone with insomnia?
Posted by admin in insomnia therapy on September 1st, 2010
I’m trying to write a story about an insomniac. And I’ve heard some people go to sleep therapy and take tests to figure out why they can’t sleep sometimes. I was wondering what happens at sleep therapy and what kind of testing would be done?
Thanks, Guy. that helps me a toooooon.

Natural insomnia remedies?
Posted by admin in information on insomnia on September 1st, 2010
I’ve been plagued with chronic insomnia for the last month or so. No matter how exhausted I am, it takes me a very long time to fall asleep, then my natural sleep rhythm is constantly disrupted due to constantly waking up, sometimes several times an hour.
Any natural remedies for an uninterrupted sleep cycle? I’ve tried melatonin, but that only worked for a week. My mattress is comfortable enough, but I should probably buy new pillows, as the current ones are getting old. I am VERY reluctant to resort to prescription medication, but I’m in a desperate situation here. The sleep deprivation is really affecting my work and my ability to function. I’m always feeling exhausted, scatterbrained, and depressed. This is no way to live…please help ![]()
I honestly don’t think it’s sleep apnea, because I don’t wake up gasping for air, but I DO wake up with racing thoughts, so I believe the insomnia is psychogenic. Probably need to reduce the stress in my life, but I don’t know where to begin ![]()
(((((Choco, Fallen & Glitterkitty)))) The Nolte thanks you.
Reefer’s not an option for a corporate whore who’s subject to random drug testing. Somehow, I don’t think my insomnia excuse would help me avoid termination.
Great stuff there, Peachers! (((hugs)))
Smoked, might be worth a try! Do you know which brands work best?
((((Major)))) I haven’t tried the light therapy yet…I know this is something we discussed earlier! I need to seriously look into that this weekend.

Does anyone have a happily ever after story with their bipolar parent?
Posted by admin in insomnia therapy on September 1st, 2010
My mother was diagnosed as bipolar about 5 years ago, after I had been out of her home several years. Previous diagnoses include depression, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, hypothyroidism, chronic insomnia, sleep apnea & hypoglycemia. She has visited half a dozen doctors to get these diagnoses. She continually cycles through taking medicine from 1 doctor as prescribed, to taking medicine from several docs who do not know she is doctor shopping, to all-herbal(and I mean like, 20 – 30 different supplements a day), to no medicine.
With each new diagnosis/treatment, she seems to believe that she has turned a corner. If I try to talk to her about behaviors that seem harmful, she becomes too tearful and sleepy to talk. Recently, she has done some very hurtful things. I’m beyond trying to confront her about it.
Does anyone have a similar situation that turned out well? I keep hoping for the best, but her behavior gets more erratic and hurtful as time goes by.

HELP! When is insomnia reason to go to the ER?
Posted by admin in reasons for insomnia on May 7th, 2010
Ever since a mysterious neck injury over 1 year ago, I haven’t been able to sleep more than aprox. 4 very fitful hours per night. This has caused me to go into depression, anxiety, etc. etc. I’ve been trying to get treated for the neck injury, but the doc doesn’t seem to know exactly what’s wrong.
It’s gotten to the point now that I’m so desperate for sleep I’m willing to take anything in my power to get any rest, and I know this might be dangerous, but it is common among chronic insomniacs. So yes, I guess you could call me suicidal. This is an emergency to me b/c I’m not suicidal like a crazy person, only desperate for help.
So what I really need to know is…. if I go to the ER, will they do anything for me asside from possibly give me more drugs (I’ve tried practically everything and nothing has worked). Will they admit me and run the tests that I feel I need? Or will they commit me to a mental institution for being "suicidal"??
PLEASE help asap…this decision needs to be made today…. =(

Which is better for the treatment of chronic insomnia, seroquel or Amitriptyline?
Posted by admin in insomnia therapy on May 4th, 2010
I have had really bad insomnia for almost two months now. This is mainly due to night time anxieties. I worry over too much random things at night, and it keeps me up. It is incredibly frustrating and makes daily life really hard to get through sometimes. Not only am I tired all day, but it has increased my anxiety and I get depressed a lot easier. I would only get maybe three hours a night if I was lucky. I tried ambien, and it knocks me right out, but usually I wake up after only just three or four hours of sleep in the middle of the night and I have a hard time falling back asleep.
I got put on amitriptyline by my doctor, and so far it has helped a little bit. Though it doesn’t stop me from worrying at night, it still helps me sleep better than if I wasn’t on it. I’ll still wake up during the middle of the night, but i find it easier to fall back asleep because I’m so drowsy. With it I get anywhere from 5 to 8 hours of sleep total, 8 if I’m lucky.
I was reading up on seroquel, and it seems to be a drug that doctors prescribe for insomnia too. Reading about it, it seems that there are less side effects to seroquel than amitripyline. I was gonna see my doctor in a week or two and ask him if he could put me on seroquel to try for a bit. Would seroquel be the better choice, or should I stick with amitripyline?
