Smoking Marijuana before out-patient surgery.?
Posted by admin in reasons for insomnia on September 18th, 2010
im a daily smoker. i use it for multiple reasons… insomnia, anxiety etc…. ive been on xanax for anxiety, but that ended bad. ive been on ambien for insomnia…. but i hate that drug with a passion now. So i tend to smoke marijuana instead now, and it solves both problems.
I’m going in for outpatient surgery on my leg today at 3 pm… there going to be putting a little plate and maybe some wires and screws. I broke it skating, and have already had ankle surgery. I broke it a week ago, and have been taking percocets (10 mg oxycodone every 5 hours) since…. so the anesthesiologists already knows im on drugs.
i smoked last night so i could get to bed, but i was wondering if smoking today would cause any problems… since im not supposed to eat today. I still taking my pain meds and allergy meds and what not today tho.
thanks.

How do I ask my parents for therapy?
Posted by admin in insomnia therapy on May 14th, 2010
I’m 15 years old and I’m completely miserable. I’ve suspected that I’ve had depression for a few years now, and I think I finally went over the edge. I haven’t gone to school in 5 days and I’ve been writing suicide notes lately. I have every symptom for depression such as extreme guilt, anxiety (also extreme, resulting in dizziness, difficulty breathing, and difficulty concentrating), insomnia, irritability (I’m beginning to get angry over everything), a constantly depressed mood, no interest in activities I once enjoyed (all I ever want to do is sit on my computer), and I’m very, very pessimistic.
Depression does run in my family, and my Mom (who is Bi-polar) shows the same symptoms that I do. I want to tell my parents that I want therapy or to be prescribed pain killers, but how do I?

Chronic Lyme sufferers' stories?
Posted by admin in insomnia therapy on May 10th, 2010
Anyone here suffering / have suffered from chronic Lyme? What has worked for you? Have you had trouble finding treatment?
Myself, I was misdiagnosed for seven years with asthma, then they decided that it was all in my head. I had a constant upper respiratory infection, chronic insomnia, fatigue, arthritis in my hands, and headaches. Not to mention depression and anxiety. I finally recieved treatment from a Lyme specialist, and now, after eight years and a lot of switching medications, my symptoms have died down to a tolerable level.

Which is better for the treatment of chronic insomnia, seroquel or Amitriptyline?
Posted by admin in insomnia therapy on May 4th, 2010
I have had really bad insomnia for almost two months now. This is mainly due to night time anxieties. I worry over too much random things at night, and it keeps me up. It is incredibly frustrating and makes daily life really hard to get through sometimes. Not only am I tired all day, but it has increased my anxiety and I get depressed a lot easier. I would only get maybe three hours a night if I was lucky. I tried ambien, and it knocks me right out, but usually I wake up after only just three or four hours of sleep in the middle of the night and I have a hard time falling back asleep.
I got put on amitriptyline by my doctor, and so far it has helped a little bit. Though it doesn’t stop me from worrying at night, it still helps me sleep better than if I wasn’t on it. I’ll still wake up during the middle of the night, but i find it easier to fall back asleep because I’m so drowsy. With it I get anywhere from 5 to 8 hours of sleep total, 8 if I’m lucky.
I was reading up on seroquel, and it seems to be a drug that doctors prescribe for insomnia too. Reading about it, it seems that there are less side effects to seroquel than amitripyline. I was gonna see my doctor in a week or two and ask him if he could put me on seroquel to try for a bit. Would seroquel be the better choice, or should I stick with amitripyline?

Has anyone tried Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for insomnia?
Posted by admin in insomnia therapy on April 14th, 2010
Has anyone tried this for insomnia and has it worked? I’ve had issues with falling asleep for about 3 months now and its driving me nuts, i tried sleep aids, xanax, etc and all the recommended methods for trying to sleep (diet, exercise, relaxation, herbal supp., etc), i have been a bit better for the last 3 weeks and sleeping more normally, with a few nights mixed in of no sleep. I get so much anxiety at night and then cannot sleep. Anyways, i have an appointment for CBT next week and was wondering if people have had positive experiences with it?
And its not depression, i was not depressed before these sleeping issues came up.
