Does Wellbutrin cause insomnia? I have heard this, or is the insomnia a side effect of the depression itself?

Insomnia is a common symptom of depression. If the insomnia has appeared or worsened since you’ve started taking the drug then maybe taking it in the morning may help. Also side effects usually diminish or disappear once your body adjusts to the medication.

All those medications have so many side effects. It shouldnt be a problem unless you start to think it will be and then your mind will play tricks on you. No, you will be fine unless you have a weird reaction.. If anything it should make your calmer and put you to sleep.

yes it can cause insomnia, since it is a kind of stimulant..
much stronger in many ways than caffeine. I was on that for a while, but be careful it messed me up and I had a terrible withdrawal where the insomnia was much worse, loss of appetite, more depression than before, etc..
But if you keep up a regimen and and don’t miss out on any, it should kind of take care of itself in a few weeks. key word SHOULD, but I’ve no idea from personal experience.. everybody reacts differently.
contrary to what the other poster said, it definately shouldn’t ‘put you to sleep’!! not at first. but when your body adapts to it, you might not notice the effects any more.

as with all anti depressants, wellbutrin has a well known side effect of insomnia among it’s other side effects. i took wellbutrin a long time ago to get treatment for my mood swings, and yep, i had insomnia- also a seizure. why do you ask about this? are you taking one? be careful!

I’ve been on wellbutrin xl for over a year and I haven’t had any more insomnia than I did before I was on it. check the prescription information online or from the packet with your pills to see if it is a known side effect. it could cause it for you, antidepressants cause lots of different side effects in people b/c of the way they work. wellbutrin has fewer and milder side effects compared to other antidepressants. and yes, depression can cause insomnia, so if you just started wellbutrin, you need to give it a few months.

Generally Wellbutrin should be taken in the morning, because it can cause insomnia, but it isn’t a normal symptom from what I understand. Most meds cause drowsiness where as wellbutrin doesn’t so that may be the dif

depression more commonly causes fatigue then insomnia. wellbutrin can cause insomnia, and often anxiety. i’m sure some depressed people get insomnia.

All of the antidepressants have different side-effects, but Wellbutrin tends to be a more excitatory one meaning it can cause insomnia. However, as side effects go, most of them go away within the first couple of weeks.

Try talking to your doctor or a pharmacist if it does not go away. Or, as someone said, take it in the morning.

I know that when you have depresion you can feel really tired or sometimes you can have insomnia. I’m not sure if wellbutrin causes insomnia(I was on it and I took it early in the mornings so it may vary because I didn’t have any insomnia). Lunesta or another sleep aid could help with the insomnia. I now drink Tazo tea and other calming teas similar to it before bed. Just try to reach a calmed point before you go to bed and good luck.
