You just need to be relaxed. Read a leisure reading book, something that isn't interesting. But don't read in your bed.

Then after like, 20 minutes or something, just lay down in your bed. turn the light off, turn your computer off, turn off, unplug your electronics. Lay there compfortably in the dark on your bed. Think of nothing. You'll fall asleep eventually.

You just need to calm yourself.

I recommend Melatonin. It's safe, healthy & over-the counter. it's in 3mg dosages, and you only want to take 1 tablet per night. you brain naturally produces melatonin when it thinks you should be sleeping, but your brain may be confused about when to produce it and how much to produce....this is becoming quite common.

You can buy it anywhere....take 1 with some warm milk and then go to bed and allow your body to rest. I think melatonin is great...you won't feel all drowsy or foggy in the morning at all! I get a little fuzzy 20min after I take it, so I go to bed (which is the whole idea of taking it), but by morning I'm totally fine, because my brain has processed the chemical and allowed me to sleep. My physician and my sleep specialist both recommended I take it and it really helps!

Hope it helps!

There are two things that work wonders. No, three. 1 is to go for a brisk walk during the day for at least 15 - 20 minutes. 2 is to have a hot bath right before bed and 3 is hot milk. Good luck

you answered your own question. you quit smoking. you're having withdrawals. every person who smokes and quits goes through. i went through the same thing, except i had nightmares too. and i also was drugs and alcohol. i quit them all and i had the BADDEST withdrawals ever! but you know what really helped me to sleep at night? and is more natural then benadryl? MILK.. lol, i would drink a full cup of milk before i went to bed and i knocked out.

insomnia will pass. be glad that you quit smoking, unless you quit because your parents don't know you smoke. sounds like you're trying to get your life back together. it will pass.. congrats.. take care..

Sounds like it's anxiety-based, some of it, even if you're not consciously anxious.

Set a bedtime and stick to it, to get your body on a schedule.
Create a bedtime ritual where you focus on quieting your mind and body. Meditate or read, and try drinking some kava-kava tea. (Kava is a plant, and is a natural relaxant.)
Get extra exercise during the day, at least 45 minutes.
And when you are in bed, don't focus on sleeping or on daydreaming. Focus on breathing deeply and evenly, or count backwards from 100; this focuses your mind without allowing you to create any thoughts that will keep you awake.

Transient Insomnia lasts from one night to a few weeks but it seems longer. Most people occasionally suffer from transient insomnia due to such causes as jet lag or short-term anxiety. If this form of insomnia continues to occur from time to time, the insomnia is classified as intermittent.

Major depression leads to alterations in the function of the hypothalamus and pituitary causing excessive release of cortisol which can lead to poor sleep quality

The antihistamine diphenhydramine is widely used in nonprescription sleep aids, with a 50 mg recommended dose mandated by the FDA
Some traditional remedies for insomnia have included drinking warm milk before bedtime, taking a warm bath in the evening; exercising vigorously for half an hour in the afternoon, eating a large lunch and then having only a light evening meal at least three hours before bed, avoiding mentally stimulating activities in the evening hours, and making sure to get up early in the morning and to retire to bed at a reasonable hour.

Everything you described as possible reasons are very common reasons to suffer from short bouts of insomnia. I would stop thinking off it as you can't sleep and start thinking of how you can come overcome these hurdles that are affecting you right now.

Good Luck

try drinking some sleepytime tea that helps and maybe relaxing with a hot bath. you may be a little stressed with your soroundings so just try to maybe meditate. don't eat before you go to bed and try not to do or think about anything stimulating, like watching tv and such just relax and clear your mind if you can. keep away from caffiene after a certain point in the day. also warm milk can help too. good luck

try to get rid of your stress... give yourself a few minutes every night before bed to get your thoughts together and relax BEFORE bed time... lay in bed and breathe very slowly for a little while and let you body just chill...
a long bath can help... make sure your room is completly dark and queit when you get ready to lie down, it will help. if you must have noise, make it natural noise, like with a natural sound machine...
I know since I started going to the gym I sleep better, might work for you too.

Sounds like you are going through a lot of stress right now. I know, I've quit smoking too and moving in the the 'rents and a new relationship? Oi! Personally, I'd be okay with the bennedryl for the next little while until you adjust to the new situation. You can try natural things like cammomile tea or a hot bath or shower before you go to bed. Exercise during the day also helps with sleep. I like listening to books on tape (harry potter to be exact) before sleeping as it helps get my mind off things and to relax at night when going through those periods of insominia we all get. You will adjust soon.
